Biography

Cloudflare is an American internet infrastructure company headquartered in San Francisco that runs a globally distributed network providing CDN, DDoS protection, DNS and security services. Founded in 2009, it sits in front of a large share of web traffic, and it has built a developer platform on the same network: Workers for serverless execution, R2 for object storage, D1 for databases and a managed browser runtime for automated page interaction. Its position between users and origin servers has made it unusually consequential in the AI era. It introduced controls letting publishers block AI crawlers by default and proposed paid crawling arrangements, effectively trying to reset the terms on which model developers use web content, and it has released infrastructure and web standards work aimed at AI agents rather than human browsers.
