Dario Amodei

Biography

Dario Amodei is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Anthropic. He holds a doctorate in physics from Princeton and worked at Baidu and Google Brain before joining OpenAI, where he became vice president of research and helped lead the development of GPT-2 and GPT-3 and the work on reinforcement learning from human feedback. In 2021 he left with his sister Daniela Amodei and other colleagues to found Anthropic, which develops the Claude family of models. He created the Responsible Scaling Policy, which ties deployment decisions to measured capability thresholds, and he writes and speaks publicly about both the potential benefits of powerful AI and the risk of losing control of it, including its effects on employment. He is a central figure in the industry's argument over whether safety concern and frontier competition can credibly be pursued by the same company at the same time.
