DuckLabs

Biography

DuckLabs is a Dutch data infrastructure company based in Amsterdam, founded in 2021 by the team behind DuckDB. DuckDB is an open-source embedded analytical database that runs inside an application process rather than as a separate server, which made it a common replacement for heavier data warehouses in local analysis, notebooks and data pipelines. Its founders, Hannes Muehleisen and Mark Raasveldt, developed the system out of database research and grew the company to roughly thirty people without taking venture funding. Alongside the core engine, DuckLabs develops what it calls the Duck Stack, including the DuckLake table format and the Quack tooling around it. Amazon Web Services announced an agreement to acquire DuckLabs in August 2026, while DuckDB itself remains under the nonprofit DuckDB Foundation and the MIT license.
