Groq

Biography

Groq is a US AI chip company founded by former Google engineer Jonathan Ross to build Language Processing Units, inference accelerators designed for very low latency compared with general-purpose GPUs. In December 2025 Nvidia paid roughly $20 billion for a non-exclusive license to its technology and hired Ross and much of the senior team, leaving Groq operating independently under a new chief executive. The company raised $650 million in 2026 to pivot toward renting inference capacity as a neocloud provider.
