Igor Babuschkin

Biography

Igor Babuschkin is the founder of River AI and a co-founder of xAI. Trained as a physicist, he began his AI career at Google DeepMind, where he worked on generative modeling and reinforcement learning, then moved to OpenAI to help lead large-scale model training. In 2023 he joined Elon Musk in founding xAI, the company behind the Grok model family, and helped build its research organization. He later left to start River AI, which is oriented around AI agents that individual users can train and own themselves rather than rent from a central provider. His background spans both of the labs that defined the current frontier, which is why his views on how training runs and agent autonomy should be structured carry weight with researchers.
