Koray Kavukcuoglu

Biography

Koray Kavukcuoglu is a computer scientist and a senior vice president at Google DeepMind. Born in Turkey, he took his doctorate at New York University under Yann LeCun, working on unsupervised feature learning, then joined DeepMind in its early years. He served as the lab's chief technology officer for more than a decade and also held the role of chief AI architect at Google, coordinating how research moved into products. In an August 2026 reorganization he began reporting directly to Sundar Pichai, taking responsibility for Gemini model development, frontier AI research, and the Gemini app and developer organizations. That places him at the operational center of Google's model roadmap, bridging DeepMind's research agenda and the products that ship it.
