Lisa Su

Biography

Lisa Su is the chief executive officer of AMD. She holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from MIT and worked on semiconductor technology at IBM and Freescale before joining AMD in 2012, becoming chief executive in 2014 when the company was widely written off as a distressed competitor. Under her leadership AMD introduced the Zen processor architecture, which restored its position in desktop and server CPUs and took substantial data center share from Intel, and it acquired Xilinx to broaden the portfolio into programmable chips. More recently she has pushed AMD into AI accelerators with the Instinct data center GPU line and the open source ROCm software stack, the most credible alternative to Nvidia for training and inference. Born in Taiwan and raised in the United States, she is regarded as one of the most influential executives in semiconductors, and AMD's ability to win AI compute deals is a central question for the sector.
