Biography

Mark Zuckerberg is an American technology executive and the co-founder, chairman and chief executive of Meta Platforms. He started Facebook in 2004 while a student at Harvard University and has run the company through its growth into a group that also owns Instagram, WhatsApp and the Reality Labs hardware division. He renamed the company Meta in 2021 to signal a long-term bet on immersive computing, then redirected much of that spending toward artificial intelligence. Under his direction Meta released the Llama family of open-weight models, an unusual strategy for a company of its size, and later reorganized its research into a superintelligence-focused group with aggressive recruiting and heavy capital spending on data centers and accelerators. Because Meta gives away weights that competitors sell access to, his decisions shape how much frontier-level capability is freely available.
