Satya Nadella

Biography

Satya Nadella is the chief executive officer of Microsoft. He joined the company in 1992 and led its server, enterprise and cloud businesses before succeeding Steve Ballmer as chief executive in 2014, later also taking the chairman role. Under his leadership Microsoft shifted from a Windows-centric licensing business toward cloud and subscription revenue, building Azure into the second-largest public cloud after Amazon Web Services and acquiring LinkedIn and GitHub. He drove the wide-ranging partnership with OpenAI that placed Microsoft at the center of the generative AI market and produced the Copilot assistants now embedded across Windows, Microsoft 365, GitHub and Azure. Born in Hyderabad, India, he studied engineering there before moving to the United States for graduate work in computer science and business.
