Biography

Siemens is a German industrial technology group headquartered in Munich, operating across factory automation, building technology, rail transport and industrial software. Its Simatic S7 programmable logic controllers are among the most widely deployed industrial control devices in the world, running production lines, power and water systems and transport infrastructure. The company also owns Siemens Digital Industries Software, whose design and simulation tools are used across electronics and mechanical engineering, and it has pushed the idea of the industrial digital twin, running a simulated model of a plant alongside the physical one. Its AI work is aimed mostly at that operational layer rather than at consumer products. Because so much critical infrastructure runs on its controllers, Siemens equipment is a recurring subject in industrial cybersecurity research and disclosure.
