Slack is a United States team messaging platform owned by Salesforce. It organizes workplace communication into channels, threads and direct messages, and its app directory and API made it a common integration point where build systems, ticket trackers and monitoring tools post into the same place people talk. Launched in 2013, it grew quickly among software teams before spreading to other industries, and Salesforce acquired it in 2021. Its more recent work has focused on making the platform a surface for AI, including search and summarization over message history and interfaces that let agents participate in conversations rather than only send notifications. In August 2026 it introduced Slack Code, a channel type that only coding agents can create, giving an agent a temporary shared workspace for plans, diffs and previews that people can review. For readers, that is an early example of a workplace tool designed for software participants rather than only human ones. Our coverage has followed the Slack Code launch.
