SpaceX is an American aerospace company founded by Elon Musk in 2002 to lower the cost of reaching orbit. It designs and flies the Falcon rocket family and the Starship launch system, operates the Dragon spacecraft that carries cargo and crew for NASA, and runs Starlink, the largest satellite internet constellation in service. Reusable boosters made it the dominant launch provider worldwide, which in turn made it a gatekeeper for anyone trying to put hardware in orbit. The company has since moved directly into artificial intelligence: after absorbing xAI and the code editor company Cursor, it operates one of the world's largest GPU fleets and rents compute capacity to AI labs, tying launch, satellite and data center businesses together. That combination is why SpaceX now appears in AI infrastructure coverage as often as in space coverage. Our reporting has tracked its Cursor acquisition, Nvidia's stake in the company, and its role in orbital compute launches.
