Sundar Pichai

Biography

Sundar Pichai is a technology executive and the chief executive of Google and its parent company Alphabet. Born in India, he joined Google in 2004 and rose through product roles, first leading the Chrome browser and Chrome OS, then taking over Android and the broader product organization before becoming Google's chief executive in 2015 and Alphabet's in 2019. He now oversees search, advertising, cloud, Android and hardware alongside the company's AI work. Since 2023 he has directed a substantial restructuring of that work, merging DeepMind with Google Brain, pushing the Gemini model family into search and Workspace, and committing heavily to data center and custom silicon spending. Those decisions put him at the center of the question of whether generative answers will erode the search results that fund most of Alphabet's revenue.
