Biography

Thomson Reuters is a Canadian content and technology company supplying information and software to legal, tax, audit, accounting, compliance, government and media professionals. Headquartered in Toronto and listed on Nasdaq and the Toronto Stock Exchange as TRI, it owns Westlaw and Practical Law for legal research, Checkpoint for tax, the CoCounsel AI assistant and the Reuters news agency. Its business rests on proprietary, professionally edited archives, which makes it one of the few AI buyers that already owns the training data most valuable to its own customers. The company has also been a party in prominent litigation over the use of its legal content to train competing AI products, making it a reference point in the copyright debate. In August 2026 it launched Thomson, its first in-house frontier-class large language model.
