Dashboard

Productivity

A dashboard is a single screen that gathers the metrics a team needs to judge the state of a system or a business. It answers a standing question rather than a one-off one: how is the service behaving right now, how did revenue move this week, where is the pipeline stuck. A good dashboard puts a small number of primary figures at the top, shows each against a comparison such as last week or a target, and gives enough detail below to explain a change. Grafana with Prometheus is the common pairing for infrastructure and application metrics, Datadog covers the same ground as a managed service, and Looker, Metabase, and Power BI serve business intelligence over a data warehouse. Product teams often build purpose-made dashboards inside their own admin tools. Newer versions add generated summaries and anomaly notes so the reader is told what changed instead of hunting for it. The recurring failure is a wall of charts nobody reads. Without a defined audience, a stated decision each panel supports, and alerting for anything genuinely urgent, a dashboard becomes decoration and important shifts pass unnoticed.
