Tom Leighton is the chief executive officer and co-founder of Akamai Technologies, which he started in 1998 with graduate student Daniel Lewin based on MIT research into distributed content delivery algorithms. A longtime MIT applied mathematics professor, Leighton became CEO in 2013 and has since steered the company toward cloud compute and security.
