Ideogram Vector Turns Prompts Into SVG Files
Ideogram on Oct. 22 released Ideogram Vector, its first model that outputs editable SVG files. It generates vectors from prompts or converts JPEG, PNG and WEBP images, with API prices from $0.10 to $0.32 per SVG.
Ideogram, the AI image startup known for rendering legible text, on Oct. 22 released Ideogram Vector, its first model that outputs editable SVG files instead of pixels. The model is live in the Ideogram web app and through the company's API, where it is listed as ideogram-vector-1.
Key takeaways
- Ideogram Vector creates SVG artwork from a text prompt or converts an existing JPEG, PNG or WEBP image into a vector.
- API pricing runs from $0.13 to $0.32 per generated SVG, and $0.10 per converted image.
- Ideogram's open-source Ideogram 4 line remains separate; the company's model page does not say Vector is open source.

What Ideogram Vector does
The model has two modes. Text to vector generates an SVG from a prompt, with optional reference images. Image to vector converts an uploaded picture into an SVG without a prompt.
According to the Ideogram Vector product page, the files are scalable and editable, so users can change colors and refine individual shapes in a vector editor. Ideogram pitches the model for logos and branding, print and merchandise, illustrations, typography, and labels and stickers.
Ideogram Vector API: endpoints and limits
Developers call POST /v2/svg/generate/ideogram-vector-1 for prompts and POST /v2/svg/vectorize/ideogram-vector-1 for conversions. The Generate SVG API reference allows prompts of 1 to 9,500 characters, up to eight images per request and three quality levels, with medium as the default.
The Vectorizer API reference accepts files up to 50 MB and offers three detail modes. "Simple uses fewer shapes; detailed preserves fine detail; auto chooses the level of detail that best suits the image," the documentation says. Auto is the default.
Both endpoints return a generation ID to poll or deliver to a webhook. A dry_run flag returns a price quote without generating or billing, and outputs are private by default.
Ideogram Vector pricing
| Request | Low | Medium | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Text to vector, prompt only | $0.13 | $0.16 | $0.20 |
| Text to vector, with references | $0.13 | $0.16 | $0.32 |
| Image to vector | $0.10 per image | ||
Context: why vectors matter for AI design tools
Most image generators produce raster files that blur when enlarged and must be traced before a designer can edit them. Ideogram has built its brand on typography inside images since its founding in 2022. It released Ideogram 4.0 as open source under the Apache 2.0 license on June 3, 2026, and Ideogram 4.5 on Sept. 30, 2026.
Ideogram models already reached vector workflows through partners. Adobe's help page for Firefly's Text to vector feature lists GPT Image and Ideogram 3.0 as partner models. The new model moves vector output into Ideogram's own app and API. It arrived the same day Canva introduced Canva Craft, its first in-house image model.
What's next
Ideogram has not published independent quality benchmarks for Vector, and claims about clean, editable shapes have yet to be tested at scale. Design teams will likely judge it on how many paths a file contains and how much cleanup it needs before print.
FAQ
Is Ideogram Vector free to use?
API use is billed per SVG, from $0.10 for a conversion to $0.32 for a high-quality prompt with references. Ideogram has not said how many app credits a vector generation costs.
Can Ideogram Vector convert my existing logo?
Yes. Image to vector accepts JPEG, PNG or WEBP files up to 50 MB and returns an SVG without needing a prompt.
Is Ideogram Vector open source?
Ideogram has not said so. Its model page lists Ideogram 4 as open source but gives no open-weight release for Vector.
