ServiceNow Puts Its Workflows Inside ChatGPT
ServiceNow said on Oct. 28 it expanded its OpenAI partnership with a ChatGPT plugin that runs ServiceNow workflows under existing enterprise approvals, plus a joint security product due in early access in January 2027 and Codex in its AI Workflow Factory in 2027.
ServiceNow said on Oct. 28 that its workflows can now be run from inside ChatGPT, as part of an expanded partnership with OpenAI. A ServiceNow plugin in OpenAI's marketplace lets users find similar incidents, assess change risk and update records without leaving the chatbot, while ServiceNow still executes and governs each action.

Key takeaways
- A ServiceNow MCP plugin for ChatGPT is available now, with enhanced capabilities promised by the end of 2026.
- The two companies are building a joint security product, with early access in January 2027 and general availability in the second quarter of 2027.
- OpenAI's Codex is headed to ServiceNow's AI Workflow Factory in 2027, and voice features come to its AI governance tool in the first quarter of 2027.
How the ServiceNow plugin for ChatGPT works
According to the ServiceNow announcement, OpenAI agents reach ServiceNow workflows through a layer the company calls Action Fabric. Requests made in ChatGPT pass through the same permissions and approval steps an enterprise has already configured.
The split of roles is the main design choice. ChatGPT handles the conversation and reasoning, while ServiceNow remains the system that carries out and records changes. ServiceNow also said it plans to preview richer, interactive plugin extensions.
"AI becomes more useful when people can put it to work in the systems their businesses depend on," said Greg Brockman, OpenAI's president and co-founder.
OpenAI and ServiceNow security tools
The companies are developing a security offering that pairs OpenAI's cybersecurity capabilities with ServiceNow's data on assets, access and enterprise context. The goal is to help teams identify, triage, validate and mitigate attack paths.
ServiceNow framed the problem in volume terms, saying a single codebase scan can surface 10,000 to 100,000 or more vulnerabilities. It also said it has joined OpenAI's Trusted Access for Cyber program, OpenAI's vetted-access track for security uses of its models.
Codex, voice and the Control Tower
Codex will come to AI Workflow Factory so developers can build applications using ServiceNow's business context. OpenAI models will also power ServiceNow's Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer, aimed at modernizing legacy applications.
A planned voice preview for ServiceNow's Super Intelligence Control Tower would let risk staff describe an AI use case aloud. The agent would pre-fill assessment fields, ask follow-up questions and assign a risk rating. OpenAI is also a founding member of ServiceNow's new Control Tower Alliance.
Each company will use the other's products internally. OpenAI plans to run ServiceNow across its operations, and ServiceNow plans to give employees ChatGPT Work and Codex.
Context: from model supplier to workflow partner
The deal builds on a multi-year agreement announced on Jan. 20, 2026, which made OpenAI models a preferred intelligence option for ServiceNow customers. That earlier deal centered on putting OpenAI models inside ServiceNow; this one also moves ServiceNow actions into OpenAI's own products.
The stakes are scale. ServiceNow says more than 100 billion workflows run on its platform each year. "When two industry-defining innovators come together, a new chapter of business reinvention begins," said Bill McDermott, ServiceNow's chairman and CEO.
What's next
Most of the announcement is a roadmap. Enhanced plugin features are due by year-end, Control Tower voice in the first quarter of 2027, security tools in early access in January 2027, and Codex in AI Workflow Factory sometime in 2027. Neither company disclosed pricing or financial terms.
