Salesforce to Buy Army Logistics Startup Rune
Salesforce agreed Oct. 29 to acquire Rune Technologies, maker of TyrOS frontline logistics software used by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, for its Missionforce unit. Terms were not disclosed; Resilience Media reported $375 million.
Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rune Technologies, a two-year-old startup whose software helps the U.S. Army and Marine Corps plan supplies at the front line, the company announced on Oct. 29. Rune will join Missionforce, the defense and government business Salesforce launched a year ago. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The deal pushes the company best known for sales software further into national security. Salesforce expects it to close in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions.
Key takeaways
- Salesforce will fold Rune Technologies, founded in 2024 by former Anduril leaders David Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough, into its Missionforce unit.
- Salesforce did not disclose a price; Resilience Media reported $375 million in cash and stock, citing two unnamed sources, a figure Salesforce has not confirmed.
- Salesforce says its defense business is growing 80% a year and serves all six U.S. military branches.
What Rune Technologies makes
Salesforce describes Rune as an "edge-native" provider of logistics and sustainment software for the U.S. military and allied nations. Its product, TyrOS, forecasts what frontline units will need, suggests how to distribute resources and plans transport routes, according to The Next Web. It is designed to run with little or no network connection and sync once a link returns.
Salesforce says the software is already deployed with the Army and the Marine Corps. In June 2026 the Army awarded Rune a $99 million contract for TyrOS, The Next Web reported, citing a Pentagon contract notice.

Founders, funding and reported price
Tuttle, Rune's chief executive, and Goldsborough, its chief technology officer, both worked at Anduril before starting the company. Rune is based in Arlington, Virginia, and raised a $24 million Series A in July 2025 led by Human Capital, Washington Technology reported at the time, with Andreessen Horowitz and Point72 Ventures among earlier backers.
The Next Web said Rune has raised $30 million in total. It cited Resilience Media's report of a $375 million price and one source's estimate that Rune was last valued at $134 million. Neither figure has been confirmed by the companies.
Why Salesforce wants a frontline layer
Kendall Collins, president and CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud at Salesforce, called it the company's biggest move in the sector. "Salesforce is doubling down on national security with our most significant acquisition in this space," Collins said. "Together, we'll advance our vision for an edge-to-enterprise platform that supports continuous mission readiness."
The pitch is that Salesforce's cloud already runs back-office and headquarters systems, while Rune's software works where connectivity is thin. "With Salesforce, we can take what we've built further," Tuttle said.
Context: Salesforce's defense push
In January 2026 the Army awarded Salesforce an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract with a $5.6 billion ceiling, according to a Salesforce press release. The contract runs up to 10 years, a five-year base period plus a five-year option, and went to Computable Insights LLC, a wholly owned Salesforce subsidiary. The ceiling is a maximum, not guaranteed spending.
The Rune deal also lands days after Salesforce agreed on Oct. 20 to buy marketing platform Braze for about $5.7 billion, The Next Web noted.
What's next
Until the deal closes, Rune and Salesforce remain separate companies. The open questions are how TyrOS will be packaged with Missionforce products and whether Salesforce will disclose the price in its regulatory filings.
